The heartwood of Sucupira ranges from dark brown to reddish-brown, with thin, light-colored veins, and has sharply defined pale yellow to light brown sapwood. The pores are medium-sized to large, scattered, and sometimes filled with yellowish-gray content. This wood is exceptionally strong and extremely hard, making it difficult to work with. Sucupira is cut after proper pretreatment, after which the veneer layers can have a slightly "grainy" surface.
