Ash wood has large, ringed pores and a coarse texture. This gives it a distinctive and striking appearance. Because the growth rings are clearly visible, the wood has beautiful streaks and patterns when viewed from different angles.
The color of the wood can range from whitish to light yellow or light red. This applies to both the outer layer (sapwood) and the inner layer (heartwood) of the tree.
When there are dark bands or flecks in the wood, we call this olive ash.
