The structure of this African wood is very coarse. It has medium-sized, evenly distributed pores. The wood is very soft and pliable.
The heartwood is typically salmon-colored to pink-gray and slightly glossy when dry. When exposed to light, it takes on a distinct yellow hue. The wood grain usually runs straight, but occasionally has a slight wave.
Okoume is widely used as a backing veneer (veneer on the underside of the board).
