African makore wood is highly sought after for its distinctive, fairly uniform reddish hue. The light reddish to reddish-brown wood has a subtle pattern from dark late growth zones. On the radial faces, it is lightly striped, with decorative glossy stripes visible. Although the wood often has a straight grain, it can also have a wavy grain or a double cross grain.
