Ash wood has large, ringed pores and a coarse texture. This gives it a distinctive and striking appearance. Because the annual growth rings are clearly visible, the wood has beautiful streaks and patterns when viewed from different angles.
The color of the wood can vary from whitish to light yellow or light red. This applies to both the outer layer (sapwood) and the inner layer (heartwood) of the tree.
If there are dark bands or streaks in the wood, we call this heart ash or olive ash.
